International Study Programs Are Intended For Students From Abroad

One of the main objectives of Freie Universitaet Berlin is to constantly develop its international profile. New study programs were introduced, for instance the Master of Arts in International Relations, a joint program of the Otto Suhr Institute for Political Science, of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, of Humboldt Universitaet Berlin, and of Universitaet Potsdam. The international study programs are intended for students from abroad (because the language of instruction is English) as well as for students of Freie Universitaet who would like to prepare for research or for a job in the globalized job market.

Special Offerings for Students from Abroad

FUBiS

The Summer University of Freie Universitaet Berlin (FUBiS) is an intense summer program for students from abroad who would like to combine language courses and courses from the humanities and social sciences. A variety of courses are offered during a six-week program in June/July and a four-week program in July/August. Since the number of students has  been constantly increasing, Freie Universitaet also offers a four-week winter term.

FU-BEST

The study program FU-BEST (Freie Universitaet Berlin European Studies) is especially intended for American students interested in studying abroad and gaining insight into the German language and German culture, as well as into those of its European neighbors. The academic year coincides with the academic year in the United States. After successful acquisition of the German language, students can continue their studies during the summer semester at Freie Universitaet.

International Management Study

Today’s business leaders must operate in a marketplace that is characterized by increasing competition, a scarcity of natural resources, and increased demands by emerging economies. The traditional skills taught by most MBA programs are still necessary, but are no longer sufficient. Our program is designed to give graduates the ability to adapt and lead in rapidly-evolving global markets, and give them the cross-cultural expertise that will set them apart from their peers.

To help our MBAs navigate the unprecedented global challenges and opportunities that lay before them, in addition to a solid foundation in key business functional areas, we offer leading edge course work typically not found in traditional MBA programs such as:  country and political risk analysis, social innovation investment, creativity and innovation in emerging nations, climate risks and corporate value, market research strategies for the base of the pyramid, and many others.  The Fisher International MBA program now also offers a cutting-edge specialization in localization management, taking advantage of the Institute’s world-famous language programs to provide MBA graduates with a unique skill set and competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Our students benefit from many unique opportunities to expand their resume, build their professional networks, and advance their international careers through our innovative curriculum, including:

  • Frontier Market Scouts: work directly with social entrepreneurs and investors during a 6-month field program in emerging markets like India, Vietnam, Tanzania, and Brazil.
  • International Business Plan: consult for client companies and organizations ranging from start-up entrepreneurs to high-tech giants such as Hewlett-Packard, Cisco and Sun Microsystems.
  • Team El Salvador: conduct community-based development projects and practice your language of study in-country during the winter session.
  • Localization Management: gain experience through internships and other arrangements in global businesses engaged in large-scale localization management projects.
  • Globalization and Localization of Business Exports Center (GLOBE): undertake consulting projects on behalf of businesses seeking to adapt their products and services to foreign markets.
  • Latino Entrepreneurs: train nascent Latino entrepreneurs in California’s Central Valley.
